Larry & Floyd started building surfboards in Floyd's North Pacific Beach Garage. By the winter of 1959, the demand for their foam surfboards forced a move from Floyd's Pacific Beach garage into their first legitimate surf shop. Gordon and Smith was born and would become one of a small group of individuals to pioneer the Surf Industry. 1960 - The First Gordon & Smith Poster designed by Lee Keifer 1961 - The First Gordon & Smith Ad run in the first issue of Surfer Magazine Matt Warshaws Encyclopedia of surfing sites credit to Gordon & Smith Surfboards for being the first to invent the Silk-screened T-shirt. Larry and Floyd would silkscreen the famous Original logo for Free on shirts brought in by excited customers and freinds who wanted to be identified as part of the Surf Culture at that time. The Original Logo was adopted for use in 1961 In 1963- Gordon & Smith Introduced Resin Nose and Tail Blocks 1964 Gordon & Smith start making laminated Skateboards with Bow-Tuff-Epoxy Fibreglass- and called them SurfSkates by Gordon & Smith. The first ads ran in the limited editions of Skateboarder quarterly that had 4 issues published in the 60's.This is one of the Ads featuring teamrider-Skip Frye- The G&S Skateboard Team at that time included Mike Hynson, Dennis Shufelt, Willie Phillips, Vince Turner among others International Surf Magazine interviews a panel of the top Surfboard Manufacturers of the time, Larry Gordon is one of them Surfboard models -Hynson 1965  -Skip Frye 1967 -Midget Farrely Stringerless 1967 1967 Modern cutaway fin Design was a revolutionary point surf design evolution and was led by Skip Frye, his concept is still used today The last few years of the 60's showed a progression towards performance as boards got shorter and shorter Gordon & Smith led the trend into shorter boards and aggressively promoted and advertised. Ads appeared educating surfers on performance aspects and showcased models like the HotCurl. Not many Surfboard Manufacturers made it out of the 60's, they couldnt step up to the dramatic changes in board design. However, Gordon & Smith did, leading the Industry into the 70's. 1969 - The Magic Model, still in the line up today with modern enhancements The Little Gypsey, the precursor to the modern day funshape concept 1971 - Egg & TwinFin 1972 - The Waterskate. 1973 - With the flurry of design experimentation Fish were introduced and Gordon & Smith had a whole family of them. The Winger concept paired with new fin design.....and Fun 1974 - Modern Machines 1974 & 1975 - The Surfboard Manufacturers had a contest called the Surfboard Manufacturers Rip-off which pitted all the top surfboard manufacturers to a surf off. Gordon & Smith won both years! Pictured here the G&S RipOff Team Gary Keating, Larry Gordon, Tony Staples, & Skip Frye 1975- Started using the G&S logo 1975-78 The G&S Skateboard business exploded /Fibreflex Skateboards had full domination in contests/Stacy Peralta Warptail/ Henry Hester Model/Steve Cathey Yo Yo's/ Doug Salidino/Dennis Marinez and many many more G&S topped the charts with the MR Models as Mark Richards was voted top surfer 4 years in a row by the annual Surfer Poll 1980-1981 G&S Trifins produced with revolutionary thin Star System Fins made by Paul Bordieri 1981- Surfwear was introduced 1982- Surfwear 1982 - San Diego Mayor Roger Hedgecock presented G&S with the DISTINGUISED BUSINESS award 1981- G&S adopts the G&S STAMP LOGO for use with Surfboards and Surfwear. The catch phrase is Authentic Surf 1985 - G&S adopts the bright and catchy SURFMAN logo through the rest of the 80's 1985 - 1989 Skate Team includes unforgettable greats like Neil Blender, Chris Miller, Billy Ruff, Nicky Guerrero, Danny Webster, Blaize Blouin, Sean Miller, Gator, and G&S Trucks team, Jason Jesse, Bill Danforth and many more incredible skaters Jimmy Hogan dominated the Pro Curcuit for G&S in the mid 80s Mid 80s Surf Team - Charlie Kuhn Mid 80s Surf Team - Andy Fomenko  Mid-late 80's -The womens market became more important in Surf Shops and the first surfwear was produced for women by G&S. 1987ish G&S came out with oversized Skate Shorts and then it all went Plaid. 1988-1989 Gordon & Smith produced Snowboards. Snowboard teamrider: Mike Ranquet 1988-1990 -Totally timeless and Still relavent today...Neil Blender G&S Art. The late 80's board lengths began to grow as more people began to get back into surfing. By the Early 90s a Longboard Resurgence was in full swing. By the Mid 90's Clark Foam reported that more than half the blanks produced were longer blanks. Longboards were back to stay. 90's G&S Surf Team - Shortboard division- Brian Jennings, Micah Anderson, Micah Nickens, Omar Etchevery 1997 - Fibreflex Longboards are introduced.
